Now-a-days football matches have lost their charm because of the allegations of match fixing and gambling. But i saw a really exiciting and thrilling match on the televesion last night. It was the final of the 1998 fifa world cup which was played between Brazil and France.
The venue of this exiciting match was a newly built stadium "Stad-de-France" in Paris. Millions of people had reached Paris to see this thrilling match.
Both teams had a star crew like Ronaldo, Roberto Carelos, Zedon and Lelin Thorum. Brazil were the hot favourites but it was the day of France tea. The match started at 8:00 P.M. After the toss the ball was kicked off by Ronaldo of Brazil with the whistle of Referee and the tussle for the crown of world champions of foot-ball started between both teams. From the beginning the French team showed their upper hand on their rivals with the skills of dribbling and passing. The Brazilians got under pressure from the start and their defenders showed lack of concentration from the very beginning. In the 10th minute France got a corner and her forward Zedian Zadan scored an amazing goal with his header. Tafferel. the goal keeper had no chance to stop the speedy head of French striker. The goal increased a lot of pressure on the Brazilians and now they were looking shattered. In the meanwhile the whole crowd was on their feet. Everybody was cheering and raising slogans in the favour of both the teams. Brazilians were depending on Ronaldo but he was not super fit and it proved a major setback for the team and the supporters. Brazil team tried their level best to equalize but the defence of France was indomitable. France got another chance in the 25th minute of the first half and it was Zedan again who converted the corner shot into an incredible goal. Zedan became the hero of the whole France and was loudly cheered and greatly applauded. At the end of the first half Brazilians were at the deficit of two goals.
At the start of the second half it looked that Brazil had accepted the superemacy of France. They started defensive game and the thrill vanished from the field. France was also trying to contain her lead and was not as keen on attacking as in the first half of the play. Suddenly there came a move from the French side and their forward Petit got a pass from his center half and shot it straight into the net while the keeper could do nothing except a desparate dive. It was the 43rd minute of the last half. Now everyone was sure of the French triumph. The passion of the French supporters was worth seeing. At last the referee blew the whistle and France became the new World Champion. They got the laurel which they really deserved.
In the end the captain of the winning team got the Fifa World Cup from the French President and France became the 2nd nation to win the world cup as hosts.
